Challenge of Science Leadership Courses

Through our CSL training courses, we aim to provide scientists, academics and professionals working in the environment and sustainability sectors with a toolkit to help them lead and facilitate effective innovation, communication and collaboration.

CSL is run by the Barefoot Thinking Company and is delivered in conjunction with academic partner, Plymouth University Marine Institute.

Our courses have been developed over the past 6 years from Barefoot's involvement with the Stanford University Leopold Leadership Program,, the VEGA Fellows Leadership and Communication Program in Sweden, the University of Toronto's Science Leadership Program and Barefoot's own training work with scientists at SAMS, JNCC, and CEFAS.

Our 3-Day CSL course provides a set of tools and interactive learning experiences with a focus on 3 key areas:

Day 1: Creative and Strategic Thinking

Day 2: Leading by Influencing and Facilitating

Day 3: Enabling Action

"Barefoot training provided me with many time management tools which have had a major impact on allowing me to be effective in my work. One of the best aspects for me was the development of a research proposal. By working with other academics from different departments I could see how my research overlapped and this led to a successful NERC proposal."
